We are seeking a Concrete Finisher to join our team in Winnipeg for year-round work on residential and commercial projects. You will prepare, place, level, finish, and repair concrete surfaces while following project specifications and safe work practices. Job Responsibilities
• Review project drawings and inspect formwork, granular bases, and reinforcement for correct dimensions, elevations, and readiness for pouring.
• Place, distribute, and consolidate concrete using appropriate tools and power vibrators, avoiding segregation and displacement of reinforcement.
• Set anchor bolts, steel plates, door sills, and other embedded fixtures according to project drawings.
• Screed and float freshly placed concrete, correcting high and low spots to achieve specified elevations, drainage slopes, and surface tolerances.
• Monitor setting and bleed-water conditions, and use hand trowels, power trowels, edgers, and brooms to produce the required finish.
• Form or cut control joints at the locations, depths, and timing specified for the project.
• Apply curing compounds, surface hardeners, and sealers according to project specifications and manufacturer instructions.
• Check for frost, ice, and unsuitable placement conditions, and install specified insulating blankets or other cold-weather protection to support proper curing.
• Apply waterproofing and damp-proofing treatments within the product’s specified temperature and surface-condition limits.
• Remove damaged concrete, prepare repair surfaces, and patch, resurface, or replace affected sections to restore the required profile and finish.
• Clean and maintain tools and equipment, keep work areas organized, and follow site safety and concrete washout procedures.
• Perform other duties related to concrete finishing, as required to complete the assigned project.
Work Environment
Work is performed at active residential and commercial construction sites throughout Winnipeg and surrounding communities. Activities include concrete placement, screeding, floating, trowelling, curing, and surface repairs in indoor and outdoor settings. Employees may encounter wet cement, airborne dust during cutting or grinding, equipment noise, vibration, uneven surfaces, and seasonal temperature changes. Winter work may involve protected work areas and measures to prevent fresh concrete from freezing. The role involves prolonged standing, kneeling, bending, repetitive tool use, and handling materials and equipment. Employees must coordinate with site crews during time-sensitive pours and finishing operations, remain aware of moving equipment, and maintain safe access around formwork and reinforcement. Work must follow site procedures for personal protective equipment, silica dust control, wet-cement exposure and equipment operation.
Qualification & Requirements
• Completion of a two- to four-year concrete finishing apprenticeship, or 2-3 years of experience.
• Ability to produce consistent concrete finishes using hand and power tools.
• Ability to interpret measurements, grades, and project specifications.
• Knowledge of concrete placement, curing methods, and safe equipment operation.
• Attention to detail, dependable attendance, and good teamwork skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and follow safety instructions.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including bending, kneeling, standing, and handling materials.
• Concrete Finisher trade certification is an asset but is not required.
