Tile, terrazzo, and marble setter
Working conditions: Salary: $38.00 per hour, 35 hours per week , permanent, full time, regular employment
Requirements: secondary school diploma, minimum 3-5 years of experience, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate, ability to distinguish between colors, attention to detail, hand-eye co-ordination, physically demanding, handling heavy loads, bending, crouching, kneeling. Personal suitability: accurate, dependability, reliability, team player, hardworking, able to work in noisy, dusty environment, knowledge of tiling and marbling techniques, ability to use various power tools, read blueprints and specifications
Tasks
Installation of tiles -ceramic, porcelain marble, granite, terrazzo, mosaic in high end upscale residential and commercial job sites including the following activities: prepare, measure and mark surfaces to be covered, mix, apply and spread mortar, cement, mastic, glue or other adhesives using hand trowel, set tiles in place and apply pressure to affix them to base, align and straighten tiles, cut and fit tiles around obstacles and openings using hand and power cutting tools, pack grout into joints between tiles and remove excess grout, Remove and replace cracked or damaged tiles, Lay and set mosaic tiles to create decorative wall, mural and floor designs, custom designs, build underbeds and install anchor bolts, wires and brackets, cut, surface, polish and install marble and granite, mix, lay and polish terra surfaces, Install tile strips.
