Job Overview
Landworks Excavation Inc. is seeking a skilled and reliable Concrete Finisher to join our construction team in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The successful candidate will be responsible for finishing, repairing and maintaining concrete surfaces and performing related concrete construction duties in accordance with project specifications, safety standards and quality requirements.
Main Duties
- Check forms, grades and specifications before concrete placement.
- Assist with placing, spreading and levelling concrete.
- Operate hand and power tools used for concrete finishing.
- Finish freshly poured concrete using floats, trowels, screeds and other appropriate tools.
- Operate power trowels and other concrete-finishing equipment.
- Apply the required surface texture and finish according to project specifications.
- Install, finish and repair concrete surfaces.
- Cut and finish control joints in concrete.
- Apply hardening and sealing compounds to concrete surfaces when required.
- Repair, patch and refinish damaged or defective concrete.
- Monitor concrete during curing and perform additional finishing work as required.
- Assist with the preparation of work areas, forms and reinforcing materials.
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment.
- Follow all workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors and other construction workers and trades.
Employment Requirements
- Completion of secondary school is usually required.
- Previous experience as a concrete finisher is required.
- Knowledge of concrete finishing methods, materials, tools and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret basic construction plans, specifications and measurements.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, bending, kneeling and lifting for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Skills and Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience finishing concrete on construction projects.
- Ability to use concrete finishing tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Dependable, punctual and safety-conscious.
- Experience with residential, commercial or civil construction is an asset.
Working Conditions
- Work will primarily take place at construction sites in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and surrounding areas.
- The position involves outdoor work and exposure to varying weather conditions.
- The work is physically demanding and may involve prolonged standing, kneeling, bending and lifting.
