Toronto Sun Wah Trading Limited is a leading company in Canada’s food distribution and manufacturing sector. Operating through a shared-services model, our technology team supports a group of related businesses across manufacturing, distribution, wholesale, retail, and food service operations.
We are seeking an experienced Software Developer to develop, maintain, integrate, and enhance our internal software applications and ERP systems. This is a hands-on development position requiring strong full-stack programming skills, practical experience with ERP customization and system integration, and the ability to coordinate software development activities with junior developers and external technical resources.
Position Summary
The Software Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, modifying, integrating, and maintaining software applications that support the company’s business operations.
The successful candidate will work closely with internal users to understand application requirements, identify opportunities for software improvement and automation, and translate operational needs into practical software solutions.
A substantial portion of this position will involve hands-on software development using the MERN stack, Python, JavaScript, XML, RESTful APIs, and related development technologies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, develop, write, modify, integrate, and test software code for internal business applications and ERP-related systems.
- Develop and maintain full-stack applications using MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js, JavaScript, and related technologies.
- Develop, customize, and maintain ERP modules, backend functions, workflows, and frontend views using Python, XML, JavaScript, and other applicable technologies.
- Analyze user and operational requirements and translate them into software specifications, application features, and technical solutions.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and software integrations between ERP systems, internal applications, databases, and third-party platforms.
- Modify and enhance existing software applications to improve functionality, system performance, usability, automation, and operational efficiency.
- Test software applications, identify technical issues and defects, troubleshoot application problems, and implement required corrections and improvements.
- Develop and maintain automated testing procedures and use AI-assisted coding tools to improve software development, testing, debugging, and documentation processes.
- Review existing software code, recommend improvements, and establish coding, version-control, documentation, and software development standards.
- Participate in application design and technical planning for new software features, modules, integrations, and system enhancements.
- Maintain source-code repositories and development workflows using GitHub and appropriate version-control practices.
- Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and development support to junior developers and co-op students.
- Coordinate software development tasks with internal users, external developers, consultants, and software vendors when specialized technical support is required.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation relating to software applications, APIs, system integrations, software modifications, testing procedures, and development processes.
- Provide advanced application-level troubleshooting and support for software systems developed or maintained by the company.
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong experience in software development, programming, testing, integration, and application maintenance.
- Expert-level knowledge of the MERN stack, including MongoDB, Express.js, React, and Node.js.
- Strong proficiency in Python and object-oriented software development.
- Experience with ERP application development, module customization, workflow development, and system integration.
- Strong knowledge of JavaScript, XML, RESTful APIs, databases, and application integration.
- Experience with GitHub, version control, code review, and modern software development workflows.
- Experience using automated testing tools and AI-assisted software development tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to translate business and user requirements into practical software solutions.
- Experience coordinating software development activities and providing technical guidance to junior developers is an asset.
- Experience developing scalable business applications in manufacturing, distribution, wholesale, retail, or related industries is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Fluency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese is considered a significant asset for communication with internal stakeholders across the group.
