Elco Label Industries Inc. is a growing flexographic label printing company seeking an experienced Flexographic Press Operator to join its production team.
The successful candidate will have hands-on experience operating multi-colour flexographic presses, with particular knowledge of colour matching, ink adjustment, press registration, plate setup, and maintaining consistent print quality. Experience operating Mark Andy presses is strongly preferred.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, takes pride in producing high-quality work, works efficiently, and is capable of operating a press independently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Review job orders and production specifications to determine printing requirements, including colour sequence, quantities, substrates, and finishing requirements.
- Set up and operate 8–10 colour Mark Andy flexographic label presses according to job specifications and production requirements.
- Mount, position, and adjust printing plates, cylinders, anilox rolls, and other press components to ensure proper print alignment and quality.
- Prepare and adjust inks, including colour matching, ink viscosity, ink flow, and ink distribution, to meet customer and job specifications.
- Set up and adjust press registration, impression, tension, and other operating controls to achieve accurate and consistent printing.
- Inspect printed samples during press setup and production for colour accuracy, ink coverage, registration, print quality, and other defects.
- Monitor press runs and make real-time adjustments to maintain consistent print quality and production specifications.
- Identify and correct printing problems, including colour variations, registration issues, ink coverage problems, and other print defects.
- Operate presses for multi-panel and adhesive label printing applications in accordance with job specifications.
- Complete press changeovers and job setups efficiently, including cleaning and preparing press components between jobs while minimizing material waste and downtime.
- Work closely with the prepress team regarding plate preparation, plate mounting, job specifications, and production setup.
- Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, inspection, and minor maintenance of press equipment and replace worn components where required.
- Troubleshoot minor mechanical and operational problems and make necessary adjustments to maintain production schedules.
- Maintain production and quality records and report printing or equipment issues to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
- Follow established quality control, workplace safety, and production procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 2 years of professional flexographic printing experience required.
- Experience operating multi-colour flexographic presses required.
- Mark Andy press experience strongly preferred.
- Experience operating 8–10 colour flexographic presses.
- Strong knowledge of colour matching, ink adjustment, ink viscosity, registration, and print quality.
- Experience with labels, multi-panel printing, and adhesive printing applications is an asset.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot press and printing issues.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
- English communication skills required.
- Completion of secondary school is preferred.
