Job Description

Tantrum Studio is seeking an experienced VFX Compositor / Online Artist to join our team in Toronto.

Tantrum Studio is a boutique visual effects and finishing studio specializing in high-end work for television commercials, digital advertising, branded content, and other short-form campaigns.

Commercial post-production requires compositing artists who can balance creativity with technical precision while working within compressed production schedules, managing multiple concurrent projects, responding to frequent client and agency feedback, and delivering broadcast-ready work on deadline.

This role combines compositing, online finishing, quality control, asset management, and final delivery responsibilities. Successful candidates will be comfortable contributing across multiple stages of the post-production pipeline while maintaining exceptional creative and technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute high-quality compositing using Nuke to seamlessly integrate live-action, CG, and 2D elements.

• Interpret creative briefs and collaborate with producers, supervisors, editors, CG artists, clients, and creative teams to achieve project objectives.

• Assemble, conform, refine, and finalize projects for broadcast, digital, and social media delivery.

• Perform online finishing, versioning, and timeline management using DaVinci Resolve and/or Nuke Studio.

• Ensure visual continuity, colour consistency, image quality, and technical accuracy throughout production, including colour-managed workflows.

• Prepare, organize, and manage project assets, including renders, plates, graphics, and project files using established studio workflows.

• Build and maintain organized node-based compositing scripts that support efficient revisions and version control.

• Adapt imagery to meet technical delivery specifications, including colour space, resolution, codec, and platform requirements.

• Modify, refine, and optimize visual elements in response to creative feedback while maintaining project quality and deadlines.

• Participate in client and agency review sessions, communicating creative and technical solutions and incorporating feedback into final deliverables.

• Perform final quality control (QC) to ensure projects meet creative, technical, and delivery standards.

• Troubleshoot technical issues throughout compositing and post-production workflows.

• Manage multiple concurrent projects while meeting production schedules and delivery deadlines.

• Contribute to workflow improvements and production efficiencies across the studio.

• Utilize emerging production technologies, including AI-assisted workflows where appropriate, to improve efficiency while maintaining creative quality.

Essential Skills & Technical Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of professional experience as a VFX Compositor / Online Artist

• Advanced proficiency with Nuke.

• Experience with online editing, conforming, and finishing workflows in DaVinci Resolve, Adobe After Effects and Nuke Studio

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in production environments with compressed schedules, multiple concurrent projects, frequent client review cycles, and evolving creative requirements.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with clients & creative stakeholders

• Strong understanding of image integration, colour, lighting, composition, perspective, and photorealistic compositing.

• Solid understanding of colour grading and ACES-based pipelines

• Experience with multi-pass CG compositing, including handling render layers, AOVs and passes for accurate integration Practical knowledge of 3D software interfaces (Maya, Blender, Cinema 4D) for scene and asset interpretation.

• Practical understanding of 3D applications (such as Maya, Blender, or Cinema 4D) sufficient to interpret assets and collaborate e:ectively with CG artists.

• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator for image prep, matte paint and design elements

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and troubleshoot pipeline issues

• Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on television commercials, digital advertising campaigns, branded content, or other short-form productions.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted production tools and evolving post-production workflows.

Education & Experience

Diploma or degree in Visual Effects, Animation, Digital Media, Multimedia, Graphic Design, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience.
