Work Location

Work must be completed at the physical locations. There is no option to work remotely.

The successful candidate will provide services at both the Brockville and Smiths Falls clinics based on operational requirements.

Job Responsibilities

The Physiotherapist will be responsible for independently assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized physiotherapy treatment programs designed to restore function, improve mobility, reduce pain, prevent disability, and promote overall health and wellness. The successful candidate will provide evidence-based physiotherapy services while maintaining the highest standards of professional practice in accordance with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, applicable legislation, and clinic policies.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Assessment and Treatment

  • Conduct comprehensive physiotherapy assessments by obtaining detailed medical histories, reviewing diagnostic imaging and physician referrals, and performing evidence-based physical examinations.
  • Administer and interpret appropriate evaluative tests to determine physical impairments, functional limitations, movement dysfunctions, balance deficits, vestibular disorders, neurological conditions, musculoskeletal injuries, and rehabilitation needs.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings, patient goals, best practice guidelines, and current evidence.
  • Determine appropriate treatment frequency, duration, and expected clinical outcomes while regularly reassessing patient progress.
  • Perform advanced manual therapy techniques including joint mobilizations, soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and other evidence-based hands-on interventions.
  • Perform dry needling (Intramuscular Stimulation) and acupuncture treatments, where clinically appropriate and within professional scope of practice.
  • Apply therapeutic taping techniques, including kinesiology taping and rigid taping, to facilitate movement, improve stability, reduce pain, and support rehabilitation.
  • Assess and treat vestibular disorders using evidence-based vestibular rehabilitation techniques.
  • Assess and manage concussion patients using current concussion rehabilitation protocols and return-to-activity guidelines.
  • Assess and provide pelvic floor physiotherapy treatment for appropriate patient populations.
  • Prescribe individualized therapeutic exercise programs, home exercise programs, functional rehabilitation programs, and injury prevention strategies.
  • Select appropriate therapeutic exercises, rehabilitation equipment, modalities, and manual interventions based on patient presentation.
  • Monitor patient progress throughout treatment and modify care plans based on clinical response and reassessment findings.
  • Educate patients regarding diagnosis, prognosis, injury prevention, ergonomics, posture correction, self-management techniques, workplace modifications, and long-term wellness strategies.

Clinical Documentation

  • Maintain complete, accurate, timely, and legally compliant patient records, assessments, treatment notes, reassessments, discharge summaries, and progress reports.
  • Document clinical reasoning supporting assessment findings, treatment selection, delegation decisions, supervision activities, and patient outcomes.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with the standards established by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.

Collaboration

  • Consult and collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, occupational therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Communicate patient progress, treatment recommendations, functional status, and discharge planning with referring healthcare providers.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary case discussions and quality improvement initiatives.

Supervision of Physiotherapist Assistants (PTAs)

  • Supervise Physiotherapist Assistants (PTAs) in accordance with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario Standards for assigning and supervising physiotherapy care.
  • Determine the appropriateness of assigning components of treatment to PTAs based on patient complexity, clinical stability, PTA competence, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Conduct initial patient assessments and establish individualized treatment plans prior to assigning therapeutic interventions to PTAs.
  • Clearly communicate treatment goals, intervention protocols, precautions, expected outcomes, progression criteria, and reporting requirements to PTAs.
  • Provide ongoing clinical direction, mentorship, monitoring, and supervision to PTAs to ensure assigned treatments are delivered safely, effectively, and consistently with the established treatment plan.
  • Regularly evaluate the performance and competency of PTAs and provide constructive feedback, education, and guidance to support professional development.
  • Personally reassess patients at appropriate clinical intervals and whenever patient status changes to determine whether modifications to the treatment plan are required.
  • Maintain overall responsibility and accountability for all physiotherapy services assigned to PTAs, ensuring delegated interventions remain appropriate throughout the patient's course of care.
  • Ensure PTAs immediately report any significant patient concerns, unexpected responses to treatment, adverse events, or changes in patient condition requiring reassessment.
  • Participate in orientation and training of newly hired PTAs and clinical support staff.
  • Promote compliance with infection prevention protocols, patient safety standards, privacy legislation, documentation requirements, and clinic policies among supervised staff.

Professional Practice

  • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to maintain clinical competency.
  • Implement current evidence-based physiotherapy practices into patient care.
  • Participate in clinical quality assurance, outcome measurement, and program development initiatives.
  • Conduct or participate in physiotherapy research and knowledge translation activities where appropriate.
  • Teach and supervise therapeutic exercises, rehabilitation techniques, and self-management programs for patients and caregivers.
  • Maintain compliance with the standards, ethical guidelines, and professional requirements of the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.

Work Schedule

The clinic operates on a flexible scheduling model to meet patient care demands across both clinic locations. Current clinics hours are:

  • Monday: 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Although the clinic is currently closed on Saturdays due to staffing shortages, the successful candidate will be required to work every other Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as patient demand increases and Saturday services are expanded.

The successful candidate will also be required to work a minimum of two evening shifts during each two-week scheduling period to accommodate patient appointments.

Working hours will average 30–40 hours per week, with scheduling based on operational requirements across both the Brockville and Smiths Falls clinic locations.


Employment Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physiotherapy from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.
  • Strong assessment, clinical reasoning, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
