Vacancy: Construction Estimator

GNR Holdings Group Ltd DBA The Grounds Guys located at 3950 191 Street Surrey, BC V3Z 0Y6

Salary: $40.40 hourly/ 30 to 40 hours per week

Position: Fulltime/Permanent

Minimum Education: High School

Language: English

Work Location: Various locations in lower mainland British Columbia

Start Date: As soon as possible

Requirements: Completion of a three-year college program in civil or construction engineering technology OR 2 to 3 years of experience as a qualified tradesperson in landscaping.

Job Duties:

  • Review landscape drawings, plans, specifications and project requirements to determine scope of work and estimating requirements.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for residential and commercial landscaping and outdoor construction projects.
  • Calculate quantities and costs for labour, materials, equipment and subcontracted services, including pavers, concrete/retaining-wall blocks, aggregates, soil, sod, natural and synthetic turf, plants, irrigation and drainage materials.
  • Estimate costs for grading, excavation, site preparation, patios, walkways, retaining walls, drainage, irrigation, planting and other landscape construction work.
  • Conduct site visits to assess measurements, existing conditions, access, grading, drainage and other factors affecting project costs.
  • Obtain and analyze quotations from suppliers, contractors and subcontractors and incorporate pricing into project estimates.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs, quotations, tenders, proposals, budgets and detailed cost breakdowns for clients.
  • Review drawings, specifications and project changes and prepare revised estimates and change-order pricing when required.
  • Maintain current records of material prices, labour rates, equipment costs, supplier quotations and previous project costs.
  • Communicate with clients, landscape designers, project managers, suppliers, contractors and site supervisors to clarify project requirements and estimating details.
  • Compare estimated costs with actual project expenses and assist management with project profitability, resource requirements and cost control.
  • Maintain organized estimating files, drawings, quotations, cost records and other project documentation.
