Job Description

Karten Metals is currently seeking an experienced and responsible Primary Metal and Mineral Products Processing Foreman/Woman to supervise and coordinate daily production activities at our facility in Trenton, Ontario.

The successful candidate will oversee production workers, organize work schedules, monitor equipment and production processes, provide technical guidance and ensure that all work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with company quality standards.

This is an on-site position, and the work must be performed at the employer’s physical location. There is no option to work remotely.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coordinate and schedule the activities of workers engaged in primary metal and mineral products processing.
  • Assign daily duties and monitor employees’ performance and productivity.
  • Establish and maintain production and employee work schedules.
  • Resolve operational and production-related problems.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to production workers.
  • Recommend measures to improve productivity, production efficiency and product quality.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure that required quality standards are met.
  • Prepare production, operational, staffing and other workplace reports.
  • Train workers in job duties, equipment operation, workplace safety procedures and company policies.
  • Ensure that employees follow established occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Set up, inspect and monitor machines and production equipment.
  • Identify equipment or production problems and coordinate corrective action when required.
  • Requisition or order materials, machinery, equipment, tools and production supplies.
  • Maintain adequate levels of production materials and supplies.
  • Recommend personnel actions, including hiring, promotion, training and performance improvement.
  • Oversee the safety of production operations and ensure that the work area remains safe and organized.
  • Communicate production targets and operational priorities to employees.
  • Coordinate with management, maintenance personnel and other departments to support efficient operations.

Employment Requirements

  • Completion of a college, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of one to two years is required.
  • A minimum of two years to less than three years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Previous supervisory experience in metal processing, mineral processing, manufacturing, recycling, industrial production or a related environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of industrial production processes, machinery and equipment is required.
  • Ability to supervise, train and motivate production employees.
  • Ability to identify and resolve production and workplace problems.
  • Ability to prepare production reports, schedules and workplace records.
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety procedures.
  • Good organizational, communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
