Tasks

  • Perform custom colour matching for stucco, paints, coatings, and specialty construction finishes by developing and adjusting pigment formulations to accurately replicate customer-provided samples and colour standards.
  • Operate advanced colour measurement instruments, including the HunterLab spectrophotometer and Nix Spectro 2 colour sensor, to obtain and analyze colourimetric data such as CIE Lab* values, RGB values, colour differences (Delta E), and spectral reflectance data.
  • Utilize colour matching software systems, including Isomatch and EZMatch, to generate initial pigment formulations and optimize colour recipes for production and customer-specific requirements.
  • Operate Hero automated colorant dispensing systems integrated with TintWise software to accurately dispense pigment formulations for laboratory sample preparation and colour development.
  • Develop, evaluate, and refine pigment formulations to achieve precise colour accuracy, batch-to-batch consistency, and compliance with customer and architectural specifications.
  • Create, maintain, and document proprietary colour standards, master panels, and formulation databases to ensure repeatability and traceability of custom colour matches.
  • Prepare architectural sample boards and decorative finish presentations (stucco, coatings, metallic, brick, stone, textured, and woodgrain effects) for commercial construction applications.
  • Produce custom samples and mock-ups for large-scale architectural projects while ensuring colour accuracy and aesthetic consistency.
  • Conduct quality control and quality assurance testing on raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products to ensure compliance with company specifications and performance standards.
  • Perform laboratory testing including hiding power, opacity, specific gravity, viscosity (Brookfield), flow retention, setting time (Vicat), and particle size distribution (sieve analysis).
  • Analyze laboratory and QC data to identify trends, troubleshoot production issues, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Investigate and resolve colour, texture, and performance discrepancies through laboratory testing, formulation adjustments, and technical analysis.
  • Document colour formulations, laboratory test results, QA records, and technical reports to ensure traceability and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with production, technical services, sales, and manufacturing teams to support product development, custom colour programs, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform calibration, maintenance, and verification of laboratory instruments and colour measurement equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Maintain laboratory safety procedures, quality management systems, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in accordance with company requirements.
