AH Fong Food is a locally based food products company located in Scarborough, Ontario. Our company specializes in Chinese-style prepared food products, including traditional dumplings, dim sum, buns, snacks, soups, and ready-to-serve dishes. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate daily food production operations, including the preparation, processing, packaging and storage of frozen and prepared Chinese-style food products.
- Develop and implement production plans to ensure the efficient use of ingredients, packaging materials, labour, equipment and production space in order to meet daily and weekly production targets.
- Prepare and manage production schedules based on customer orders, inventory levels, product demand, staff availability and equipment capacity.
- Monitor and control the inventory of raw ingredients, packaging supplies, work-in-progress items and finished food products to support smooth production flow and timely order fulfillment.
- Establish, monitor and improve production procedures, work methods and workflow to increase efficiency, reduce waste and maintain consistent product quality.
- Direct and oversee quality control procedures throughout the production process, including inspection of ingredients, product appearance, portion consistency, packaging accuracy, sanitation and food safety compliance.
- Plan and manage the production department’s operating budget, including labour costs, material usage, equipment needs, maintenance expenses and production-related supplies.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance schedules for food processing, cooking, freezing, packaging and storage equipment, and recommend repair, replacement or upgrades when necessary.
- Supervise production supervisors and staff, assign work duties, monitor performance, and ensure employees follow production standards, workplace safety rules, sanitation procedures and food handling requirements.
- Hire, train and oversee the training of production employees in company procedures, food safety practices, new equipment use, production techniques and quality control standards.
- Prepare and review production reports, including output levels, inventory usage, labour efficiency, product defects, equipment issues and other operational performance indicators.
- Work with senior management, purchasing, warehouse and sales staff to coordinate production needs, resolve operational issues, and support the company’s overall manufacturing and distribution objectives.
Qualifications & Skills
- Completion of a university program in engineering, business administration, manufacturing management, food science, or a related field is usually required.
- Minimum five years of previous experience in manufacturing, food processing, food production, or a related production environment is required, with several years of supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of production planning, inventory control, quality control, equipment maintenance, workplace safety, and staff supervision is required.
- Experience with prepared food, frozen food, dumpling, dim sum, bakery, or Asian food production is an asset.
- Strong ability to organize production schedules, manage staff, monitor production targets, and ensure efficient use of materials, labour, and equipment.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills are required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced food production environment and ensure compliance with company procedures, food safety standards, and quality requirements.
