Job duties:

  1. Independently maintain and oversee the full cycle of financial record-keeping across manual and computerized systems, resolving day-to-day discrepancies and maintaining records in accordance with established accounting procedures for the company’s food manufacturing and retail/wholesale operations.
  2. Post and finalize journal entries; perform complex bank, credit card, and e-commerce reconciliations, identifying and correcting discrepancies prior to month-end close.
  3. Prepare trial balances and financial statements.
  4. Manage the end-to-end payroll cycle — wage calculations, direct deposit processing, and statutory deductions — and independently resolve payroll discrepancies in accordance with CRA requirements.
  5. Oversee accounts payable and receivable across multiple sales channels (direct B2B wholesale, online store, and major retail partners), prioritizing collections and following up on payment terms in accordance with company credit policy, and escalating high-risk accounts to management.
  6. Calculate and finalize government remittances, including GST/HST, source deductions, workers’ compensation, and pension contributions, verifying accuracy prior to submission.
  7. Compile internal financial reports on inventory costing, sales margins, and expenses, and flag notable trends for management’s review.
  8. Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors and the company’s external accountant, coordinating audit working papers, reconciliations, and responses to queries with minimal oversight.
  9. Maintain fixed asset registers and calculate depreciation in accordance with the company’s prescribed accounting methods and schedules.
