Construction Estimator - (Bilingual English/Mandarin)
(Precast & Cast-in-Place Concrete)
Location: Waterloo, ON
Since 1972, Fritz-Alder Precast has been producing and installing precast concrete products, leading the way through innovation. We are currently seeking a full-time Estimator with demonstrated, hands-on experience in both precast and cast-in-place concrete construction.
This position requires an individual who can independently prepare accurate and complete estimates for complex construction projects involving structural concrete systems. This is not an entry-level role. Only candidates with the required concrete estimating experience will be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs from drawings for precast and cast-in-place concrete systems, including foundations, walls, slabs, and structural components.
- Review and analyze tender documents, drawings, and specifications to determine full project scope.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in project documents with architects, engineers, and consultants
- Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates, quotations, and proposals.
- Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Develop preliminary construction schedules and sequencing considerations.
- Maintain current material pricing and cost databases.
- Prepare and price change orders.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and internal bid reviews.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project and client information.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Construction or Architectural Technology Diploma, or related field, from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum 2+ years of direct, full-time estimating experience specifically in both precast concrete and cast-in-place concrete construction (mandatory).
- Proven experience estimating complex multi-residential, commercial, industrial, and/or long-term care projects (mandatory).
- Demonstrated ability to independently interpret and analyze structural and architectural drawings and specifications.
- Fluency in Mandarin and English (spoken and written) is required to effectively communicate with suppliers
- Strong knowledge of structural concrete systems, construction methods, and sequencing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and BlueBeam.
- Working knowledge of Adobe, Revit, and AutoCAD.
- Valid G driver’s license.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders concurrently and meet strict deadlines.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
Additional Requirements:
- Candidates must have practical, job-based experience estimating both precast and cast-in-place concrete scopes.
- Experience must include involvement in projects of significant scale and complexity, including but not limited to multi-residential, commercial, industrial, or long-term care developments.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced estimating environment is required.
