 Job Description:

1. Staff Management & HR Compliance

  • Recruit, hire, onboard and train staff
  • Set staff work schedules that follow BC Employment Standards Act (e.g. meal breaks, overtime, vacation pay, stat holidays)
  • Monitor staff performance, conduct evaluations and providing coaching
  • Ensure workplace safety in line with WorkSafeBC requirements
  • Demonstrate new cooking techniques and new equipment to cooking staff

 2. Customer Experience & Service Quality

  • Maintain high-quality customer service standards
  • Address & resolve customers' feedback, complaints or concerns
  • Ensure a welcoming, clean, and comfortable café environment
  • Answer customers' questions regarding menu items and preparation methods
  • Describe menu items including daily specials for customers

 3. Operations & Daily Café Management

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate daily operations
  • Modify food preparation methods and menu prices according to the restaurant budget
  • Plan and organize daily operations
  • Determine type of services to be offered and implement operational procedures
  • Order supplies, organize and maintain inventory levels
  • Negotiate arrangements with suppliers for food and other supplies
  • Establish inventory and quality control methods

 4. Food Safety, Hygiene & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure health and safety regulations are followed
  • Enforce food-safety procedures (safety/handling skills) in food preparation
  • Plan menus and ensure food meets quality standards
  • Create new recipes with fusion of Filipino, Japanese and North American food and pastries for diverse market
  • Prepare pastry for special occasions, such as weddings and birthdays
  • Advise on menu selections
  • Maintain sanitation logs and ensuring cleaning routines

 5. Financial Management

  • Plan & analyze budget to boost and maintain the café’s profits
  • Develop budget to determine cost of food, ingredients, kitchen and cleaning supplies
  • Monitor revenues to determine labour cost
  • Balance cash and complete balance sheets, cash reports and related forms
  • Cost products and services
  • Plan and control budget and inventory
  • Control waste and improve profitability

 6. Marketing, Community Engagement & Business Growth

  • Negotiate with clients for catering or use of facilities
  • Participate in marketing plans and implementation
  • Manage events; collaborate with local events, artists, or businesses

 7. Leadership, Culture & Team Development

  • Lead, instruct and support employee development & career growth
  • Encourage collaboration & morale

 Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years or more of experience in the food service sector, including supervisory experience, are required.
  • Minimum 5 years or more of experience in creating food menu and inventing new recipes that would cater to a more diverse client-based market including Filipino, Japanese, and North American fusion food and pastries, to name a few
  • Minimum 5 years or more of operating and managing a food and pastry business
  • Minimum 5 years or more of experience in recruiting and supervising of staff members and training staff in cooking and serving techniques
  • Experience in using point of sale terminals, Microsoft Office, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, and electronic cash register
  • Ability to understand and speak in the Filipino language is an asset
  • Exposure in varied cultures in terms of food and pastries; being well-versed with the Filipino culture is an asset.
  • Ability to stand for an extended period and ability to lift at least 20 pounds
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, work under pressure doing repetitive tasks
  • Pass basic security clearance

Educational Requirements:

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in food-related programs (Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Technology, etc).
  • Must have Food Safety Certificate
