Position: Sous-chef

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Start Date: As soon as possible

Hourly Wage: $36.60- $37.60 (Depends on qualification and work experience)

Working Hours: 30 hours per week

Working Location:  4197 Fraser St, Vancouver, BC CanadaV5V 4E9

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of line cooks, prep cooks, and other kitchen staff to ensure efficient kitchen operations and timely food preparation.
  • Assist the Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring all dishes meet Zab Bite’s quality, taste, and presentation standards.
  • Demonstrate new cooking techniques, recipes, and the proper use of new kitchen equipment to culinary staff during training or menu updates.
  • Participate in menu planning, including developing new dishes, improving existing recipes, and supporting seasonal or promotional menu changes.
  • Requisition food products, ingredients, and kitchen supplies, ensuring appropriate inventory levels and minimizing waste.
  • Prepare and cook meals or specialty items, particularly during peak hours, staff shortages, or when high-level culinary expertise is required.
  • Monitor food handling, preparation, and storage practices to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and kitchen hygiene standards.
  • Collaborate with management to maintain cost control through portion management, inventory rotation, and proper use of ingredients.
  • Assist in training, mentoring, and evaluating kitchen staff, helping to develop skills and maintain consistency across all stations.
  • Ensure smooth kitchen workflow, communicating effectively with front-of-house staff to coordinate timing and service quality.

Qualification:

  • Completion of secondary school is usually required.
  • 2+ years of experience in in commercial food preparation, are required.
  • Ability to work in a team and self-motivated in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail oriented, energetic, and customer focused
  • Able to stand for extended periods
  • Working knowledge of English is required
