Hours: 30–40 hours per week
I am looking to hire a compassionate and reliable Personal care attendant to support my elderly mother in our home in West Vancouver.
She is recovering from a stroke and requires daily assistance. Due to weakness on the right side of her body, she cannot walk independently and uses a wheelchair. She needs help with transfers and safe movement around the home.
My mother also has aphasia, which affects her ability to communicate. Because of this, we need someone who is patient, gentle, and able to communicate clearly. She requires consistent, safe, and supportive care with her day-to-day activities.
High school completion or equivalent experience
Training in Health Care Aide, Personal Support Work, or a related field is an asset
Valid First Aid Certificate is an asset
Experience caring for seniors or individuals needing daily assistance is an asset
Experience supporting someone recovering from a stroke is an asset
On-the-job training will be provided to learn the patient’s specific care needs
Compassion, patience, and strong communication skills
Ability to assist with mobility and safe transfers
Understanding of personal hygiene support
Reliability and attention to safety
Work in the employer’s home
One-on-one care for an elderly female recovering from a stroke
Help the patient with daily personal needs such as grooming, toileting, and ensuring comfort while resting in bed or moving around the home.
Give medications according to the schedule and instructions provided by the healthcare professional or family, and remind the patient when it is time to take them.
Support the patient with showering or sponge baths, choosing appropriate clothing, and maintaining overall cleanliness.
Help the patient perform gentle exercises, support them when walking or transferring, and use mobility aids safely.
Prepare simple meals or snacks and provide assistance with feeding when needed to ensure proper nutrition.
Spend time talking with the patient, offering comfort, engaging in simple activities, and helping reduce feelings of loneliness.
Keep the patient’s living area clean by doing tasks such as laundry, tidying rooms, washing dishes, and maintaining a safe environment.
Help the patient follow their daily schedule, including medication times, meals, therapy exercises, rest periods, and other essential activities.
